How long have you been exploring art?
I have been exploring art since childhood, beginning as a hobby. Over the years, I explored with various mediums, gradually refining my skills and understanding. Art has grown from a simple pastime into a meaningful part of my life, providing both expression and balance.
What inspires you most about Punjab's culture?
Its vibrant folk heritage, rooted in timeless traditions. The spiritual depth of Sikhism, and the rich literary legacy that celebrates resilience, love, and humanity.
Your personal art philosophy:
Art is that it is a profound language of expression, capable of capturing emotions, stories, and truths beyond words. One quote that inspires me is by Cesar A Cruz: "Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable" which beautifully encapsulates the dual power of art. It reminds me of art's transformative power to heal and uplift.
About the featured artwork:
This artwork, titled 'Saaz' (meaning musical instrument in Punjabi), portrays the fading richness of Punjab’s folk musical heritage. It features an old man in traditional attire playing the Sarangi, symbolizing the deep cultural roots of Punjab's music. The original photograph was captured by photojournalist Jaskiran Singh Batra. These verses beautifully encapsulate the essence of the artwork:
