How long have you been exploring art?
I have studied graphic design and interior design, but illustrations and creating art has always been a core element in all my work. I have been interested in art since I was a child, watching and taking inspiration from my mother while she created beautiful oil and fabric paintings. Recently I have begun exploring and creating art which is not for a design project but just things that I want to express and memories I want to capture.
What inspires you most about Punjab's culture?
The spirit of generosity and a welcoming community is what inspires me the most about Punjab's culture.
Your personal art philosophy:
I believe that every artwork I create should have a story behind it, or should tell a story, whether it is visible or not, the essence of it should come from a story. This makes the art more meaningful to me. Something that has been inspiring me most recently with my work is Nike's tagline 'Just do it'. Many of us keep thinking of ideas and question ourselves so much before the execution, that we end up dropping it. This line pushes me to just create, get practice, learn something and then see where it goes.
About the featured artwork:
I go for walks and runs at Sukhna lake very often and my favourite part is the bird watching path and the lotus cluster. Early in the morning, just as the migratory birds started to arrive, I noticed all these marsh birds, sitting delicately on the lotus patch patiently looking for their morning catch of fish. I observed the regulars, Egrets, Pond Herons and Night Herons, and the not so often seen Grey Heron and Marshy Swamp hen. This view along with my morning exercise was a refreshing and optimistic start to my day, and I wanted to capture the memory of it.
