How long have you been exploring art?

15 years and counting! I started out in graphic design and then sharply swerved into illustration when the dearth of well-produced books representing Sikhs and the Punjabi culture hit me.

What inspires you most about Punjab's culture?

The birth of Sikhi upended many social norms and our ways of living. However the Gurus made sure that coexistence was not just maintained, it was upheld. The Punjab of today is nowhere near what it was supposed to be, and that's a fantastic opportunity for self-reflection. For an opportunist, the shit is superb manure!

Your personal art philosophy:

Not sure who said it, but this quote really got my goat - "if you can't draw it, you don't know it". Try drawing your own face from memory, and you realise how less you've observed something you think you know. I think knowing how to draw is atleast as important as language itself. Pictures have no boundaries, and span all human experience. Drawing is how I focus, how I try to understand anything.
